The Power of Music
An Essay on how Music has Changed my Life
Music is something we make from the heart, that is why each song is different. Whatever we are feeling at the time comes out in a jumble of notes and words and we mix them around until we are satisfied with the results. With out music our world would be a dark one, people would not be able to express what they were feeling to the world. Luckily, we live in a world with plenty of music to go around, and we use that music for everything from recreational purposes to a way to cheer us up.An Essay on how Music has Changed my Life
(TS)Though it may not seem like it, music is one of the most essential parts to healthy mental development. We need music to help us express ourselves when we feel incapable of doing so on our own. (SD)One of my favorite songs is "Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley. In this song Barkley is talking about a time when he truly though he had lost his mind. He sings "I remember when, I remember I remember when I lost my mind. There was something so pleasant about that place. Even your emotions have an echo, in so much space.".(CM)He talks about how pleasant it was to loose his mind, not having to worry about anything, almost as if he had literally lost his mind.(CM)Stress often enters my life and often I feel as if I can't take it anymore. When I listen to Barkley's lyrics, I almost laugh at my self for being so stressed because the tone of the song truly lifts my perspective on life. (SD)The thought of my emotions having an echo because I have absolutely nothing to think about makes me realize that although I might not be able to reach that level of serenity, I will be able to get through whatever is slowing me down. (SD)Barkley talks about having lost his mind not because he didn't know enough, but because he knew to much. (CM)He sings "And when your out there, with out care, yeah I was out of touch. But it wasn't because I didn't know enough, I just knew to much". This makes me think that Barkley must have lived through some traumatic events in his life if he lost his mind because of all the things he had learned and saw. He goes on to sing "My heroes had the heart to lose their lives out on a limb and all I remember is thinking, I want to be like them. Ever since I was little ever since I was little it looked like fun and it's no coincidence I've come and I can die when I'm done."(CM)Barkley must have dreamed of being a soldier when he was a child, and now that he as it he doesn't want anything else. These lyrics make me realize that whatever problems I might have in my life, if I just keep going towards one thing I want, one goal, then I can get through the hard times.(TS)Many people don't realize that the lyrics in even the most strange songs can have a powerful message. Sometimes you actually have to "hear" the words in order to fully appreciate the beauty in the song, not just the music.
(TS)The irony in how music can relate to your life can be extraordinary. (SD)Through out the book, Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, Romeo life is torn apart because of love. In the song "One" by Lamb, a story of love unwinds it's self. They sing " Here’s a story, of lover’s finding union so deep, there is no unwinding... love so strong whatever the weather even apart our souls are together." (CM)These lyrics speak of a love that is so strong, nothing can tear it apart, not even death. Romeo and Juliet both felt this way, as if they were united as one. (SD)They felt that not even death could break them apart.(SD)Both Romeo and Juliet's family were probably trying to get them to stay away from each other. (CM)It came to the point where Romeo and Juliet both killed themselves because they wanted to be together. (CM)If their parents had known what was going to happen they probably would have stopped what they were doing and try to support their child. In the song "How to Save a Live" by the Fray, they sing "Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend somewhere along in the bitterness and I would have stayed up with you all night had I known how to save a life." (SD)If Romeo and Juliet's families had known how to save their children's life, then they probably would have put aside their differences and helped save their children.(CS)Everyone is capable of feeling the same emotions, that is why there are songs that enrapture everything from happiness to jealousy and everything in between. No matter what the emotion, there's a song for it.
Music can show our deepest emotions, our deepest fears as well as joys. Music helps us cope with what we are going through so we don't feel alone. It shows us that we all have the same feelings, even if their not about the same things. We are all united by one common thing, the ability to feel emotion, music just helps us show that.
